JOHN MOOR(E) PLEASANT HILL, DALLAS CO. ALABAMA
Posted by: Stephanie Stoermer (ID *****5738) Date: July 21, 2002 at 10:46:47

Seeking descendants of, and additional information on, the John Moor(e) family of Pleasant Hill Alabama. John Moor(e) was the son of James and Nancy Moor(e) and brother of Lewis Moor(e), Reverend William Moor(e), and Mary "Polly" Moor(e) Cowan. The Moor(e) family came to Dallas Co. circa 1820 from Tennessee.
Note: John Needham Smith of Lowndes Co. Alabama but originally from Tennessee, was purportedly a cousin of the Moor(e)s.

Based on the 1850 Dallas County census, John Moor(e) was born circa 1794 in South Carolina. He married at least three times (1) Pamelia/Pamela Sanders [died 1825] ;(2) Elinor Oliver and (3) Sarah Alison Casey.

John Moor(e) had at least two children. However, the only child I have any information about is John's son (by Elinor Oliver) William Lewis Moore born February 20, 1838 in Dallas County. William Lewis Moore married Mary C. Hesler, daughter of Martin Hesler. Note: William Lewis Moore moved to Mississipi in 1857 and died at his home, near Zion Seminary, Miss., December 10th, 1896.

At one time, the John Moor(e) Bible was purportedly in the possession of the Butler family in Huntsville, Alabama. Since the spelling of the family surname is erratic in official documents, this is cross-posted to both the MOOR and MOORE Forums.

Any and all info appreciated. I am a descendant of Lewis Moor, John's brother and have info to share.
