Ancestors of Joshua Mooney

There is a rumor in our family that Joshua Mooney rode with Daniel Boone into the "Wilderness." I have just found a book entitled "Boone" and it mentions a James Mooney who travelled with Daniel Boone. Joshua's father was a John Mooney b. abt. 1791 and I'm wondering if John's father was this James Mooney.

Also, there is another story about several little girls of the Mooney family who were abducted by the Indians along the Ohio river in the 1820s. I have information from a Mike Mooney and he had heard the same story in his family derived from a Matthew Mooney of Gallipolis, OH. My gr.grandfather, Joshua, was born in Ross County, OH and that is only a couple of counties apart in southern Ohio.

I'm trying to tie John Mooney of Ross County, OH to Matthew Mooney of Gallia County, Ohio. Can anyone help?
