Canonical Information about John Moone (1601-1655) - Isle of Wight County, VA
Posted by: David F. Prenatt, Jr. (ID *****3833) Date: November 29, 2008 at 09:15:08
  of 4665

Captain John Moone was born 1601 in Berry near Gosport, in the parish of Stoak [Alverstoke], Hampshire, England to William Moone and Anne Woodman, and baptized 24 Jun 1602. He came to Viriginia in 1623 on the _Returne_. By 1628, he had settled at Warisquoacke [Isle of Wight County, VA]. (_Adventurers of Purse and Person, Virginia 1607-1624/5_.)] I am related to him through my g-g-g-g-grandmother Nancy Dabney[9] Moon (1794-1860). _(Archaelus[8] ,Jacob[7], Stephen[6], Stephen[5], Abraham[4], John[3] Moone, William[2], Thomas[1].)_ Much confusions seems to arise from the fact that Isle of Wight County, Virginia was named after the Isle of Wight in the English Channel.
