I am very interested in the Moon family/families of East TN. In 1807-09 (My records are at home). Rachel Moon owned land (Witnessed by William Moon) next to Joseph Wood, in Cocke Co. TN, the Bybee area. Joseph Wood also came to TN. from Pennsylvania. I am not sure if he came directly to TN. from PA. or not. His oldest children were born in PA. and the remaining ones in TN. The first confirmed child born in TN. was in 1794. Additionally, a lot of the Cocke Co. records are found in Sevier Co. I do not know if there is a connection to the Moon family, but often families living next to each other were related in some way. Also, in 1825, Joseph Wood had moved to Cooper Co., MO. and in a letter written back to his two remaining sons in Cocke Co., he mentions that the letter bearer was Jesse Moon. Of course, my focus is on Joseph Wood, but would not be surprised to find that the Moon and Wood family are related. My Joseph Wood and family appear to have been Baptist, but I am not sure if there is a Quaker connection. He references in his 1825 letter "going to meeting," but back then I believe that was not exclusive terminology connected to Quakers. My real interest in Rachel Moon and William Moon is just a pie in the sky hope. The 1825 letter Joseph Wood wrote is to tell his Tennessee sons that their mother has died. He mentions that "She wanted to see her sister Rachel so Levi rode up in the night and her and William came and stayed through the illness." I don't know if William is Rachel's son or husband, maybe brother. Since there is the connection of Rachel Moon living close to the Wood's in TN. maybe it is also true in Missouri. Anyway, I would appreciate any Moon info, even if it does not help me in this situation, I have just seen so many Wood/Moon connections in my research, that I think they connect in some way.
