This is the background of Elinor Kennedy who married John Moody.

Incidently I have just realised that my great, great grandfather was born circa 1787 the same year Elinor Kennedy married John Moody. He was named WILLIAM MOODY!!!

Wm Kennedy of Derry, elder son of Gervais Kennedy b 20th Oct 1713, went apprentice of Mr George Crookshank of Derry. He owned lands at Knockroe, Co Tyrone and house property in Ferry Quay St, Derry, where he probably lived. J.P. for Derry and Donegal.

On November 7th 1739 he married Easter, the only surviving child of George Crookshank mentioned above. She brought him considerable property in the counties of Derry and Donegal, derived from the families of Crookshanks, Pitt and Bacon. She was named Easter after her grandmother, Hester Bacon, with the slight alteration to commemorate the day of her birth viz. Easter Day, 10th April 1721. Often was shortened to Eacy in the family records.

The name Pitt also came into the Kennedy family through the Crookshanks. Easter Crookshank’s paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Pitt, daughter of Henry Pitt of Derry. Her will is dated at Derry 18th Jan 1787; proved 4th Dec 1792 (Weply’s Abstract of Irish Wills – Soc of Genealogists)

William Kennedy’s will is dated 15th June 1782 (Weply’s Abstract of Irish Wills – Soc of Genealogists)
Proved 23rd February 1783. He died in 1783 and was buried in Derry Cathedral churchyard.

There were 12 children of the marriage. Easter died on 1st February 1829, aged 79 and was buried in the old church at Monstown (I wonder if this should be Monkstown and I have written it down incorrectly); M.I. there.
