They had 3 sons, Nathaniel who married Abigail Vaughn, Robert-unknown status, and Samuel who married Ann Miller A LIST OF PERSONS WHO PAID HEARTH TAX IN 1665 IN THE PARISH OF CLONLEIGH, DONEGAL, IRELAND ORR Wm.Shannon 1705 Rev. James Moody of Co. Down Ireland who was born 1705 in Magherally, Ireland. was a son of a John Moody and Elizabeth Shannon. They were Scottish Moodie's who came over from Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland area with the Kennedy's during the 1600's [probably the latter part. 1704???--For a man who was already an Episcopalian to accept the rite in the Church of his choice, was of course an unexceptionable act; but no Presbyterian could partake of the ordinance from the hands of the minister of another Church, as a qualification for secular office, without doing an act as mean and unprincipled as it was impious. Some conformed out of love to this world and its rewards; but throughout the kingdom, every Presbyterian who filled any office under the Crown, and who set less value on gain than on a good conscience, allowed his office to lapse, rather than do an act which he sincerely believed to be an act of sin and apostasy. In Belfast, the whole Corporation was changed in consequence. In Derry, ten aldermen and fourteen burgesses, out of a Corporation of thirty-eight, chose to lose office rather than to hold it by taking their sacrament in the Cathedral. The names of these honest men, who were brave enough to act in accordance with the claims of truth and honour, deserve to be held in everlasting remembrance. She married John MOODY around c1705 possibly in Co. Armagh, Ireland. They may have had a son who was the Presbyterian minister Rev. James MOODY who may have married Frances KENNEDY. Rev. James Moody had a son Rev. Boyle MOODY who was arrested and tortured to death in 1799. Does anyone know if Elizabeth Shannon was married prior to John Moody? Did she by any chance come from Co. Londonderry/Derry and a daughter of Robert Shannon? [THIS INFO FROM NET] I suspect that this line of Moody's may descend from the Rev. James Moody b.1705 in Co. Down, Nor. Ireland who was a son of John Moody and Elizabeth SHANNON of Tandragee, Co. Armagh, Nor. Ire. They came over from Ayrshire, Scotland during the Presbyterian immigrations and Rev. James Moody married Frances Kennedy a daughter of one of the numerous Rev. Gilbert KENNEDY's of a long line of Presbyterian Kennedy's dating waaay back in Scotland However to date I have not been able to make a conclusive connection there. I also suspect we link to the John Moody line of Co. L'derry who owned a bleach green and links to the Kennedy family again via marriage or otherwise that I've not found info on yet, and to the Ledlie Surname Facts families in that area and the EAKIN's and many others. John Moody who owned the bleach green, had 2 sons by two different wives, 1st son William Moody and 2nd son Robert Moody came to Pittsburgh, PA around c1816. William and his sons and descendants became very successful in life and Robert died while in his 20's going up the Ohio River on his way to Minnesota So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You very much. [THIS INFO FROM MELISSA at Genforum or Rootsweb] Oct. 26, 1789 - Drennen letter to McTeir "Dr. MOODY is very ill....if he left Dublin for good Dr. Drennen might go to Dublin." [there is a note that says Dr. Moody died after October...MY NOTE-this is Dr. John MOODY son of Rev. James and Elizabeth Shannon MOODY]. [REFER TO MELISSA POST]ON THIS SITE OR ROOTSWEB Elizabeth SHANNON christ. Dec. 17, 1677 daug. of Robert SHANNON (was she the Elizabeth Shannon who married John MOODY who had son Rev. James MOODY b. 1705 in Magherally, Nor. Ireland later Presbyt. minister at Newry, Co. Down? The dates sure fit and This Elizabeth would have been about 28 years old when that Rev. James Moody was born in 1705 too...the John MOODY above christened in 1644 might be her husband although that John MOODY said he was born in Tandragee, Co. Armagh, Ire....perhaps he Was born there but Christened in this church?) [ANOTHER ONE OF MELISSA POST]she is great at this****** more to come Debbie Notify Administrator about this message?
