thanks Art at least now I know I'm searching for the right family line if I come across anything that looks like it might intermix with ours.
VA had a ton of folks coming to it from very early on as I'm sure you know, and later as well. VA remained one of the eastern states that allowed the Scot-Irish to land there after New England decided they didn't want any more of them for a while. I also know that MD was another area where many of them landed as well, so its a toss up really.
Lots of times these earliest known ancestors weren't born in the places they landed either but when they became inhabitants of a place their Birth records seemed to reflect or imply that they were born there when in fact many of them were born in Europe or from wherever they came from.
The Scot-Irish can be among the most difficult to trace too because of all the fighting that took place in Ireland and Scotland during the religious upheavals. Many of the early records and records of the 1700's have been destroyed and as a result, folks like me can't find their family beyond a certain period.

I can't find my 5th grt. grandfather anywhere before c1774. I only "guessed" at his birth year but for all I know he could have been significantly older than I guessed.
Anyway, I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything regarding a Richard MOODY of VA.
One curious thing that I did post on here, that I think you might have already read, was the Richard KIRBY who had the son named Moody KIRBY of the early 1700's VA...Southampton area I think it was; and again I don't know where that is in proximity to Dinwiddie Co. without getting out my map again, but I still feel there is something more to that than has yet been discovered.
With the mix-ups of the first and last names of Moody KIRBY vs Kirby MOODY. The only other thing I can think of is that Perhaps...this family has ties to the Kirby MOODY line and a Kirby daughter married into the Moody family and therefore named a son Kirby MOODY after her own family name.
Since both families appear in early VA, I think there has to be something to that effect because Kirby as a first name is just NOT a Moody name that I've ever seen used before in all my nearing 30 years of doing this genealogy and studying of the Moody names.

At any rate I will as I've said keep my eyes peeled for anything I think might relate back to your family line and if I do come across something will post it here.
Good Luck in your research.
