Difficulty Matching Montoyas in New Mexico circa 1800s
I am having difficulty figuring out if another Montoya is related to me and how distant we are. Andre Montoya is a descendant of the former Senator Joseph Manuel Montoya, (1915 - 1978) of New Mexico. Richard William Montoya is Joseph's son and Andre's grandfather.
My grandfather was Cornelio de Jesus Montoya of Conejos Colorado, born July 16, 1881, son of Juan Francisco Montoya, born April 4, 1855 and baptized in Abiquiu April 24, 1855.
Both Andre Montoya and I are 44 years of age and we both have relatives from New Mexico. Juan Francisco Montoya is the son of Delores Montoya but I am not sure who the father is. That is where I get stuck. I do know that the earliest family member on my Montoya side was Juan Montoya born about 1764. There is no baptismal record and some records list him as Juan Montoya Romero.
We both have Lujans in our family tree, and I have Ruybalids in mine. That is where the connection to New Mexico is, with the Ruybalids, I think. If I had more information on Senator Montoya's ancestors, maybe I could piece it all together.
Does anybody have a clue? Please, please help. Thank you.
