Zlatica,

I had another response to a post on the United States Geneology forum. This completely slipped my mind. Yugoslavia wasn't formed until after WWI. They're saying he would have been born in Austria-Hungary. The area today for Austria-Hungary consists of Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Romania, the Czech Republic etc.

So, it's possible that the record I found with the birthdate in 1896, born in Biskupya, Austria and departing from Trieste on the Kiaser Franz Josef I could be him. Do you have any advice on how to verify this? I'll backtrack over the Ellis Island records. Do you know if there are any other ports in the state of New York that I could check in case he doesn't show up there?

Melanie
