If your John Monteith's grandmother was a daughter of the Earl of Montrose, my Monteith line is not going to help you, whatsoever. It is an entirely different branch. You need to check out the book, "The Redbook of Menteith," by Fraser, if I remember correctly. The Library of Congress has a copy.It is more concerned with the lines that you require information on.I paid a researcher in Washington, D.C., to copy the pages from it that concerned my line.I also hired the late great genealogist, L. G. Pine, of England, who worked with Burke on the peerages and wrote the section on genealogy for the Encyclopedia Britanica, to extend the Drummond lineages connected with my Monteith line to connect to King James IV of Scotland. My published book on the Monteith family of Virginia gives the royal lineages back to James IV of Scotland and Edward III of England.
