dr. joseph montegut was born in 1793 a descendant of norman ancestors who invaded italy in the eight and ninth centuries. he came to la. about 1760 and was married to francoise de lisle dupart a native of the colony. he became the first resident physician of the new orleans hospital. this info comes from NEW ORLEANS; FACTS AND LEGENDS BY raymond j. martinez and jack d.l. holmes published by hope publications 734 orleans ave new orleans, la. no date. these monteguts are not related to the montegut family of st john parish, who came to louisiana , beginning with pierre montegut, who is listed as a coffee grower in cuba 1807, and arrived in new orleans around 1791. miles montegut has the best info on the montegut family of louisiana. good luck, mary morrill
