William Monatgue m. Frances Smith-VA, early-1700s
A William Montague married Frances Smith, a daughter of John and Ann (Smith) Smith of Middlesex Co., VA.Frances Smith was born in 1717.I so not see a single mention on the internet about this marriage and/or this couple (but a man who has "traced" this Smith family for over 30 years has proof, apparently, of this union).Could this William Montague have been married more than just once, and could this marriage to Francies Smith have been missed by researchers?
There was a William Montague (born 1730) who married his apparent relative Catherine Montague. The second (apparently) son of this William Montague was named William S. Montague (born 1758; William S. Montague married Elizabeth Valentine, and they had a daughter named Clarissa Montague who married Charles Ludwell Lee).Does anyone know what the middle initial of "S" represented?Could it have stood for "Smith" (and could Mrs. Catherine (Montague) Montague have died after the first/earlier son had been born, and could this William S. Montague have been the son of Mrs. Frances (Smith) Montague) instead? If not, what OTHER "unaccounted-for" William Monatague was "available" in the Middlesex Co., VA area in the early-mid-1700s who could have married Frances Smith?Any/all comments will be appreciated. Thanks!
