Hello Linda, I'm very new to doing genealogy, so please bare with me. I was surfing today and found this forum. I am descended from William Monroe and Rachael Piper. I'm trying to find out the names of their children. In some records I show him as having a son named Daniel who was born in 1758 in Westmoreland County, Va. He was born the same year as President Monroe. Does anyone have any information on this?
I'd certainly appreciate it. Also this is the first time I've heard anything about Rachal and a John B. Bush. This is all so confusing. Seems our ancestors married and remarried so many times. My Daniel served with Washington at Valley Forge.
His son Dan, Jr. was a trader on the Santa Fe Trail and was killed by Commanches in 1828. His son, John T. Monroe was Mayor of N.O. during the Civil War.
I've been invited to join the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century and have to have proven records dating back to 1701.
I agree there are too many burned records to say the least.
If anyone can help me, I'd certainly appreciate it!
