Phillip Monroe

I am tracing my family tree, and starting with my grandmother's maternal side of the family. Grandma's mother was a cochran, who married a Clifford Monroe. Census records show Clifford's father to be a Phillip Monroe, born in 1855, Married to a woman named Catherine/Kathryn. I have not been able to find Phillip in census records before 1880 when he was recorded as a boarder with the King family at age 24. I am trying to find his parents, but when I tried to find him in the 1870 census, he wasn't there. All I was able to find at that point was that he was not yet living with the King family in 1870, when he would have been 14.

If anyone has any information on Phillip Monroe, born 1855, please respond.
