In Reply to: MICHAEL MONGOLD & ELIZA SMITH OH WV by Jennifer Pidgeon of 80

During the course of my genealogy research, I have come across George Washington Mongold, son of Michael and Eliza Mongold. I was searching for another George Washington Mongold, born in Hardy County WV, son of Rebecca Mongold. I have obtained the death certificate of George, son of Michael and Eliza. He died in Clinton County, Ohio, township of Richland, on March 8, 1914. He was born August 27, 1849 in Ohio. He was a laborer. He was the son of Michael Mongold, born in Virginia, and Eliza Jane Smith, born in Virginia. He died of a cerebral Hemmorhage and was buried in Milledgeville Cemetery on March 10, 1914. The informant for the death certificate was Frannie Mongold of Washington CH, Ohio.

I hope this information helps. The Mongold family that I am searching for left Hardy County WV about 1870 and moved to Greene County, Ohio. My George was married to Caroline Phoebe Sites.

I feel these families are connected because Michael moved to Hardy County and George left there and moved to Ohio. It is like they changed places.

There is a listing for Michael and Eliza Jane in the 1870 Hardy County census. He was 45, she 41. Childeren were Solomon,19; Mary, 16; John, 14; Nancy E.,12; Michael,7; Jacob,4; and Martha J,1. George must have been the eldest. All children were born in Ohio except Martha J. That would put their arrival time between 1866 and 1869. In the 1880 Hardy County census there is an additional child listed by the name of Lucy E., age 3.

Hope this helps.....Pam
