There is a Sampson Mounger/Monger in my family line. He was a brother to my 2nd great grandfather, William Henry Monger. Their father was Henry Mounger/Monger and I believe their mother was Alcie Jones. I believe they were all born and raised in Roane Co TN. I believe my Sampson died in 1858 at age 38, so he would not be your Sampson. It is not a very common name so there is probably a connection. Also, that generation seemed to move a lot, with family moving to Texas, Arkansas and Missouri to name a few places. William Henry and his wife moved to Missouri before the start of the Civil War.
