>> I am thinking Elair is Eli Sr.s brother.

There is no french name called Eli or Elair Or Elaire.
I think the senior Hilaire and Elalr(e) and Eli are all the same person!

You are probably pronouncing the "Hilaire" name like
Hillary CLINTON meaning you are saying "hill" (as in mountain).

But in french the "H" in Hilaire is silent
and the letter "I" sounds like the letter "E".
The emphasis is on the first syllable and
the second syllable begins with the letter "L"
The "R" sound is not heavy.

In the olden days many people were illiterate and
it was left to the record keepers how to spell the names.
This wasn't a problem in french Quebec ...
but to english American ears Hilaire would sound just like Elaire or Eli.

>> From what I found Eli Jr. parents were Eli (Halaire) and Aurelia.
>> I found them on several census along with several brothers and sisters.
>> Elair and Marceline are connected but I haven't figured how.

Perhaps Hilaire was married twice &
Aurellia and Marcelline are both his wives ?
