I found this original manuscript apparently written by Rev. Samuel Monett and dated 1800 in a box of very old family papers when searching for genealogy materials. I have speculated (with no proof whatsoever) that perhaps the young woman with whom he absconded to Georgia was a member of my family or a friend of my family(?). Would make a good story, but it is pure speculation. Document is written in a very beautiful hand and the signature is easily deciphered "Samuel Monett" with a great flourish underneath. It is a handsome document. (I have forwarded several photocopies of the original manuscript to Roland Monette, who has extensive postings to the Monette board). If anyone knows of a connection between the Samuel Monett(e) line and my lines (Wolfe/Wolff, Pledger, Jones, Brown, etc. of North Carolina), please contact me as I would love to have a clue as to why we might have this document. I do not know of any connection between Rev. Samuel Monett and my family and don't know why this manuscript is in our things, but I have transcribed it here. When man was fallen far from God Exposed to condemnation the Lord of Glory interposed and purchased our Salvation. He laid his richest glory by and groveled in the garden Twas love divine did him incline to purchase for us pardon. None could atone but Him alone his Father's wrath diminish To make us Kings and Priests to God Jesus hath cryed, 'tis finished. The work of Man's redemption wrought A sacrafice accepted Now man may live for Christ hath died His pardon's now contracted. Come Lord and bring us to the pool Twas opened for uncleanness and bid us step in and be made whole and cry no more our leanness. To bring ____ on earth he came O burn my vile desires And then my mind will be inclined To join celestial choirs. Like Moses' bush then may we burn Without receiving harm That when Thou dost to earth return To sound the Great Alarm. Then may our souls with Thee arise Whatever may oppose us With angels mount above the skies And sing the song of Moses. So be it Lord thy will be done Appear and be victorious The Spirit now and Bride saith come And make us with the Glorious. So shall we walk with thee in glory white And cast our crowns before thee With Abraham sing our Glorious King And evermore adore him. Finis. Samuel Monett Sing with the spirit and with understanding When this you see Remember me Though many miles we distant be. 1800 Notify Administrator about this message?
