I am no expert but I think that the people who still spell MONNET(t) with one or two 't's at the end came directly from Poitiers France to French Canada in the 1600's and kept the same spelling as in France. The English ( and Dutch, probably ) never heard the (silent 't's) so the name was spelt without them, e.g. Monnee or Monay, etc.See: http://freespace.virgin.net/b.minney/variants.htm Bill Smith
