Becky - I got the name Allen Hale Munday from my aunt.I would have to ask her if she got it from the family Bible or from someplace else.According to what I have always been told, my g-g-grandmother was Catherine Eliza Munday, daughter of Allen Hale Munday (sometimes called "Rial")and Catherine Francis Danner.Apparently she preferred the name Francis. In the 1850 Grayson County, VA census, she is head of household and Eliza is still there under the name Catherine.Francis is mistakenly identified as male. The family knows who it is, though. In the 1860 Grayson County Census, Francis is living with her daughter Eliza and her son-in-law John Henry Hensdell.I don't know all the brothers and sisters of Eliza. She had a sister named Calista Jane and a brother William. She also had a brother named Allen, but as I understand it, he was her half-brother.Allen was married to Matilda (can't remember last name) and according to the Grayson County Mortality Schedule, he was "killed" in Spottsylvania County in 1861.(Civil war?I don't know.)
I don't know what happened to Hail/Rial.I will ask my aunt.I remember her telling me that my great grandfather George Washington Hensdell paid for one of the Mundays to be in the "poorhouse".What "poorhouse", I don't know.
Please tell me where I can find that Hail actually headed for Denton Co., Texas.I need to ask my aunt about it, and I can't find it anywhere.I also want to ask her where Catherine Francis Danner was buried.According to the Danner website, she was buried in Denton County, Texas. Is there a place where I can find that?Did "Hail Munday" marry again?
In the 1860s, John Henry Hensdell died, leaving Eliza Mundy with numerous children. She packed them into a covered wagon and took them to the Dickenson Plantation in Russell County.I don't know if Francis was still alive at that point. Most of Eliza's children stayed in Russell County, but my great-grandfather George Washington and his twin brother Wesley came back to Grayson County.
I would sure like to sort this out.I don't understand why our names don't match.
Thanks - Mary
