I have now located in the Book the information such as it was then. Fredrick and Anne ( Martin ) went to NZ in 1883 with 15 children ( at least at that time it says ). Frederick was the second son of Stephen b 1793, who was the older brother of Johnathon b 1796 who was the father of David Henry, the author of the Book ( see lower down ). These were descended directly from the Rev Christopher Monkton b1578 who started the Kentish branch. The book lists the fifteen children of Frederick as Leslie 1867, Owen 1868, Frank 1870, Edward 1878, John 1882, Annie, Mabel, Lucy, Norah, Eva, Edith, Winnifred, Grace, Margaret, Emilia, but no birthdates for the girls. And there must have been a couple more children perhaps born in NZ. You dont say which is your mother's mother. I cannot locate a Dr Francis as Frederick's brothers and sisters were Edward, Rosamund, Catherine and Ellen. You do not say when Dr Francis came to NZ so it may not be listed unless he was born before 1887 when the book was published. Mary Lillian Parr Monckton was the daughter of William b 1834 married to Maria, daughter of Thomas Parr. William was a younger brother of David Henry Monckton who was married to William's wife's sister, Sara Parr. David Henry b 1828 was the author of the Book of Moncktons. It would be useful to try and update the Book or at least the trees and I guess the only way is for people who are descendents to get in touch with each other to fill in the gaps. I would be interested to hear from your cousin of the rest of the family tree of the 17 children as it must be extensive. I suspect some of the NZ Moncktons may have at some time come to Australia as well. Do you know any more about Tony Monckton? I only know one Monckton by that name in UK and I dont know if its that one and I am not in touch with him although if its the same one I could try and look him up. The Kentish Moncktons are obviously now the bigger branch and figure prominently in the UK newspapers with the descendents of Sir Walter Turner Monckton, who was well connected with the abdicated King Edward. I have often wondered about the desendents and relatives of the descendents of David Henry Monckton as he collected a lot of the paperwork and artifacts that was used to compile the Book and he obviously had no children, so did he pass any written material to his Brothers, cousins?? If you want to pass on the info above, then I am sure that your Monckton relatives can get in touch with me via this forum or my email address on it. regards Parry
