Hi Katherine:

I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800.

Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%.

Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.

Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).

For Barbara Faherty B 1885 +/- 1 yr, Co. Galway, with the father's forename unknown, I found 1 church rcd in 1886. The parish was Roundstone. The father's forename was "Colm." This doesn't quite fit your info. Therefore, I am dubious about it being for this ancestor.

For Thomas Faherty M 1881 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Galway, I found 8 rcds: 2-1877, 2-1879, 2-1881, and 2-1883. These pairs are obviously duplications of church/civil marriages. Only the 1877 rcd is in Kilcummin Oughtergard RC parish.

For Mary Molloy M ditto, I found much the same pattern above, but there is a matching rcd in 1877 Kilcummin Oughtergard RC parish.

It is likely that the above marriage rcds are for your ancestors. The chance that matching rcds for the same names, the same yr, same parish occuring by chance is remote. A view of the detailed rcds SHOULD reveal their parents' names as well as other info which can help validate the bride and groom's B rcds.

For Thomas Faherty B 1852 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Galway, with the father's forename unknown, I found 4 rcds: 1851, 1852, 1854 and 1856. Only the 1852 rcd is in Kilcummin Oughtergard parish.

Will let you take direction from the above and search for Mary's B rcd.

Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
