Hi Janet:
I'm also researching my NYC ancestors. My ancestors were originally Irish immigrants who "squatted" in the area that is now NY's Central Park. When I saw the name "Moller"
is rang a bell!

1850 Census lists:
1850 Census lists:MOLLER, George H. age 31, born Germany,
occupation "ivory black manufacturer"
(I think this is similar to charcoal)
wife, Rebecca, age 26.

The MOLLER's and MENCK's operated a
"bone-boiling plant" in the vicinity of
West 77th St. between 7th & 8th Avenues, NYC.

There's a paragraph or so written about these "plants" in a book, "The Park and the People,A History of Central Park." Here's a quick sentence or so (page 75) from the book:

"Such 'nuisance' industries were being driven

3rd District) - lists "MOLLER - large frame
building, factory, value=$2000, located

Once Central Park was planned and work begun,
families and manufacturing plants were
"re-located".

Also....
Also....1855 NY Census, 22nd Ward, District 3:
(west side NYC, very close to Central Park):

MOLLER, Charles, Germany, 9 years in US,
Grocer, naturalized; frame building, $1000

Janet, hope this helps! I'm still searching
for my "folks" and am constantly coming
across other names and doing cross-
refrencing (that's how I remember the
MOLLER name).

I'm 99% sure my Irish ancestors
had some dealings with the Moller plant.
