Lou, It was actually George Cathey, Sr. (not John) who I have as marrying Margaret Moffett.
This is way back in my tree so I don't know that much.
Here's what I have, (I lost who it was from when I lost my hard drive.)
Ann(e) Cathey b.3Apr1743 in Augusta Co.,VA., was the daughter of George Cathey, Sr. and Margaret Moffett. She married at 15 to William Hamilton Moore, in Rowan Co., NC., and died there sometime bef.1774. Her father George was the son of James Cathey. She also had a brother, George Cathey Jr. who m. Margaret Chamberlain.
Margaret Moffett has indeed been a bit of a mystery. She is documented as a daughter of John "Marphet" in Orange County, VA. in 1739.
John was 40 at the time. I think Margaret was born abt. 1723, so she was 15 or 16 then.
I haven't worked on this line in a while, but I've always been a little skeptical of the marriage of Margaret Moffett to George Cathey, Sr.
If you find out anything in the future please let me know, I'll do the same.
