I'm in the process of trying to separate the work of father Richard R. Moffatt of Lacrosse, WI, from that of his son, Richard R. Moffatt of Brooklyn, NY.
I think the patentee addresses will do it pretty well, also the father seems to always applied for patents as R.R. Moffatt, and son as Richard R. Moffatt.Father's patents always dealt with military ordnance as far as I can tell, and son's dealt largely with electrical devices for industrial use or for electric utilities.Son had a great many patents for electromagnetic iron ore separators, from 1889 to 1906.He was a director of an electric utility as well:

I am still trying to find a date of death for father, which would make the separation of their patents more certain.
