I am researching Mode's of Rutherford Co. Some info provided to me, but not yet checked shows Isaac Mode (b abt 1784) married Anna White in 1808. His father was William Mode(died 1810).Isaac was murdered about 1815 and Anna married James Powell later. Some legitimate children were Samuel Mode (1812-1899) and Nancy (born 1808). There were also Sally Mode, Isaiah W. Mode (1824-1919 - father was John McEntire, lived in McDowell Co), and John Washington Mode who were born after Isaac Mode was murdered but before Anna married James Powell. These 1800 Modes seemed to have lots of children without benefit of marriage and there are quite a few bastardy cases. You will have a confusing, but interesting time in your research.I am trying to prove that Nancy W. Powell who married William Powell and had Rebecca Mode and several Mode children living in the same household in 1850 and 1860 census was a Mode and the sister of Rebecca.
