Hi Alice. That's a possibility I've considered. There was a Jacob Moats (1758 - 28 Apr 1842) in Washington County, MD who left a will naming, among others, sons Daniel and John H. We know that Henry named a son Daniel, and I thought maybe John's initial H. stood for Henry and that he was actually our Henry Moats. However, I found John H. Moats later living in Hagerstown with a wife who was not named Catherine. Still, it's a theory to be considered. I just don't know where else to look at this point, but I'll keep thinking about it. Please keep in touch and let me know if you have any other ideas.
