My great-grandfather was Francis MOAN, born c.1837 in County Armagh, Ireland, the son of Felix MOAN and Susan COLLINS.
Francis immigrated to County Lanark, Scotland where he was a coal miner. In 1869 in County Lanark, Scotland Francis MOAN married Mary DAUGHERTY (aka DOCHERTY).Purportedly, she also was born in County Armagh, Ireland. Her mother was a ROARK (aka RORKE).
My grandfather was John MOAN, born 1870 at the Haywood Colliery in Carnwath, County Lanark, Scotland, the first child of Francis MOAN and Mary DAUGHERTY.John's siblings were Felix, Francis, Jr. and Mary.
In 1901 in County Lanark grandfather John MOAN married Letitia McLAUGHLIN (aka McGLACHLIN).She was the daughter of Thomas McLAUGHLIN and Letitia KERRIGAN (aka CARRIGAN) of Springburn, County Lanark.
From 1902-1906 John and Letitia's first four children were born in Slamanan, County Lanark. In July 1906 grandfather John MOAN left for the U.S. from the port of Glascow, Scotland and settled in the state of Indiana. In November 1906 the rest of his family (including his parents) joined him.
Our family spells our surname MOAN.However, I've found records for them as MUNN and MOON (presumably misspelled by clerks since records indicate all these folks could read and write).I'd like contact from anyone who might have information on any of these family lines.
