My great grandmother, Mary Letitia Allen (b. 1858, MO), had three sisters named Ritter Amanda (b. 1853, TN), Sarah Elizabeth (b. 1855, TN) and Susan Francis (b. 1862, MO), respectively. Unfortunately, any info regarding them has become lost to my family over the years. Would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might know something of them.
The four sisters were the daughters of Naomi Renfro (b. 1834, TN) and Josiah Allen (b. 1830, NC?). This couple was married in Meigs Co., TN in 1852. The third daughter, Mary Letitia, was born in Cedar Co., MO in 1858, and the family was living in Wright Co. by the time of the 1860 census. Josiah then died of fever in 1862, shortly after having enlisted on the side of the North.
After this, a Joseph S. McKee became guardian of the four girls, and eventually married their mother, Naomi, in 1869. (This info is from Josiah’s pension file.)
After that, Mary Letitia married John Blackwood around 1875 and settled in Wright Co. to raise a large family. But the fate of her sisters and mother remains a mystery to my family. Have been told that Naomi may have eventually moved back to TN, but no luck so far confirming this. The three sisters may have married and remained in Wright Co., or could have moved on as well.
Any light anyone could shed on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
