MARY ANN PHILLIPS, daughter of GEORGE and ELIZABETH PHILLIPS, was born in Appanoose County, Iowa, April l0, l856, and passed away at the home of her daughter, MRS. G.H. COVERDALE on May 23, l9l7, being at the time of her death 6l years, l month and l3 days of age.
When two years old, with her parents, she moved to Worth County, Mo., where she grew to womanhood. In l878 she was united in marriage to EDWARD STEPHENS and to this union three children were born, namely, MRS. G.H. COVERDALE and J.W. JETER, of Leon, and ROSCOE STEPHENS, of Hatfield, Mo. All survive her and were present during her last sickness.
In June, l878, her husband was called into the great beyond, leaving her to provide and care for the three small children and herself. When they had reached man and womanhood and were all in homes of their own, she was united in marriage to THOS. HACKER in l898, of Allendale, Mo., who survives her.
In early womanhood she united with the Christian Church and has since lived an exemplary Christian life. Her influence was felt by all with whom she came in contact. As a wife and mother she was untiring in her intense devotion. Laboring constantly in the cause of the Master until she heard the welcome call "Come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world."
