Possible epidemic between 1850-1860

My gg grandfather Tillman Blade and family was listed on the 1850 census in Wayne Co. MO. On the 1860 census Tillman, Eliza and the three oldest sons were missing. My g grandfather Francis (age 15) and younger brother James W (age 12) was living with another family. Tillman, Eliza and the oldest sons never appeared again. Does anyone know if there was an epidemic or some other reason the five would have died?
