John Smith T. in Washington County, MO in early 1800's

Does anyone know the family history of John Smith T. I understand he was quite a colorful character in early Washington County. He added the T. to the end of his name so people would know he was the one from Tennessee. I found a source that said a James White of Caledonia was his son in law. That James White sold his store there to a Thompson. I am researching that James White. I would appreciate anyone sharing any family information they may have on John Smith T. or that James White. I am trying to see if my James White is the one who was son in law of John Smith T. My James White was living with the widowed Emiline Rogers' home in 1860 in Belleview Twnshp. of Washington Co. Emiline was a daughter of Martin Ruggles. I do not know if there was a family connection to Emiline Rogers or not.
