My second great grandfather was Henry H. Ragan, born in KY, moved to Morgan Co., IL, then to Lucas Co., IA and finally to the Montevallo area of Vernon Co., MO where he died in the fall of 1886 or around Nov of 1887 depending upon who is telling the story.
One kind sould checked their cemetery index and could not find Henry Ragan listed. I know that he could have been buried somewhere other than Vernon Co., but I don't have any idea of where else to look.
Would anyone know whether there are probate records for Vernon County in the 1886-87 time frame?
I don't know if he owned property or rented but as he is listed as a farmer in the 1880 and prior census records, I assume he would be working the land.
Would anyone know if there are land records available to see if there is a land sale from his estate to someone else? Thank you very much.
