Bonnie-
Perhaps I can help you on the Middleton family. Volley, the widow of James, was listed on the 1840 census in Taney County ("111000/121101"), and was shown on the 1850 census of Polk CO MO with four daughters living with her- all born in TN in the 1820/1830 era. William J. Middleton had married in Polk Co in 1849, but is not shown on the 1850 census in Polk or nearby counties. Most of the descendants eventually moved to Linn Co KS.

Does this information fit what you have on John?

Jerri
