I'm searching for information about John and Elizabeth (Farmer) Woody and their son Elijah M. Woody and daughter-in-law Martha Glassy, who lived in Stone Co. in the 1850's and into the 1860's. According to a biographical account published about Elijah, John, Elizabeth and son, Elijah moved from Roane Co TN to Stone Co MO when "Elijah was a young boy" (he was born in 1841). Elijah later married Martha Glassy and they had two children together, before moving to Howell Co MO "after the Civil War". Presumably while residing in Stone Co., Elijah served in the Civil War in the 6th Missouri Cavalry (US), Companies D and I, and the 8th Missouri Cavalry (US) Company D. An Abraham N. Woody also served in the same 6th MO Cavalry companies as Elijah. I have no information about Martha Glassy and her family. I don't have any marriage license information that confirms that she and Elijah Woody were married in Stone Co. I do know that she died after their move from Stone Co to Howell Co after the Civil War. I have no information about the date or location of John and Elizabeth's death or burial--I don't know if their final residence was Stone Co or whether they moved on to Howell Co with Elijah and his family. I checked the index of the 1860 US census for Stone Co, and there is a John and Elizabeth Woody household listed, but the ages and birth locations for them do not come close to matching the ages and birth locations of my John and Elizabeth Woody. Any information or leads on the Woody and Glassy families in Stone Co during this period would be appreciated. I would also be interested in knowing more about the two Woody families listed in the 1860 census for Stone Co: John/Elizabeth Woody and David Woody. They might be related in some manner to the Woody family members I'm researching. Regards, John Reid P.O. Box 7164 Libertyville IL 60048 Notify Administrator about this message?
