Please scroll to the bottom of this posting for a discussion of Catherine Anderson, b 1839 in Indiana, who was buried in Rock Hill Cemetery, Puxico, in 1884. It would appear they came to Stoddard County around 1880 from near Cobden, Union County, Illinois.
===================================

Descendant numbers follow the system used for George's family on page A68 of "A Family History and List of Descendants of Cornelius Anderson and Mary (Scott) Anderson". This book is available on microfilm loan at LDS Family History Centers.

If you know of other descendants whose names belong in the list above, please post them as followups, being careful not to include birth dates of living people.

Besides George, the ancestor of those shown here, Marshall and Catherine (Leeright) Anderson had at least five other children, according to the Jackson Co IL 1870 census and the Union Co IL 1880 census. One son, Richard, visited his uncle, Marshall's brother - my great-grandfather - in 1905 and said Marshall had, besides Richard, sons named George and Lonny. The censuses show these names:

2(11)1 WILLIS ANDERSON. Age in 1870 was 3 b IL. He does not appear in Marshall's household in the 1880 census.

2(11)2 GEORGE W. ANDERSON. Age in 1870 was 2; in 1880 he was listed as 9.

2(11)3 SYLVESTER ANDERSON. Age in 1880 was 5.

2(11)4 "DERY" A. ANDERSON. Age in 1880 was 4. The handwriting was transcribed as "Dery", but I believe this name may have been "Dory", for Dora.

2(11)5 LONNY ANDERSON. Age in 1880 was 3. Name was spelled "Lony". Presumably the nickname for Alonzo.

2(11)6 ALPHUS ANDERSON. Age in 1880 was 1.

It would appear Richard was another name for Sylvester or Alphus, assuming Willis died before 1880. But it is possible Catherine had other children after the 1880 census.

A submission to Ancestry.com claims Catherine (Leeright) Anderson died in 1884 in Missouri. Her birthplace was Indiana. On the 1880 census her age of 41 indicates she was born around 1839. I believe this death record from "Stoddard County Death Records 1883-1886" refers to our Catherine:

ANDERSON, Catherine. Female. Age 45y, 6m. Died 17 Jan 1884 Puxico [Stoddard Co]. Born in Indiana. Lived in county six years. Buried in Rockshill Cemetery on 18 Jan 1884.

The estimate of six years in the county would place Catherine in Stoddard two years before the 1880 census, which showed her in Union Co IL.

Findagrave.com shows an entry for Catherine at Rock Hill Cem in Puxico. No photo of a headstone is displayed, and one may not exist. The birth date shown for her at Findagrave (17 Jun 1839) is probably an attempt to calculate it from her age at death shown in the county death record book, which is cited as the source.

A search of Stoddard County records may yield something on Marshall and some of his children. If he died not long after Catherine, his younger children's names may show up in guardianship records there.
