No Mary Gere or Mrs. Gere notice found in the Alton papers in that time frame.

One interesting notice in the same issue as Capt. Gere's obit was found on page 5 stating that "Alfred Gere of St. Louis in in the city today, called here by the funeral of his brother, the late Captain Gere"

I did check for death certificates in Missouri for any Gere's, there were 4 that showed up but no Alfred, Mary or William.
