I have been researching great grandma Babe for years and cannot find her in the 1880 census and the 1910 census. She was born as Nancy Elizabeth Roby, suppose to be the daughter of Benjamin Roby and unknown mother. She was born about 1873 or 1874. She died about 1959. She lived on AB highway NE of Bloomfield, Missouri, Stoddard County with her son, Clarence Layton. According to Kip Robey's wife, Kip was the son of Dolph Robey and Dolph was the son of Benjamin. Benjamin was the son of Samuel. Dolph was born in 1881. Dolph Robey was in the 1900 census living with his brother or uncle, James, but is listed as a relative. Mrs. Kip Robey said Grandma Babe was Dolph's sister or half sister. Nancy E. Roby (Grandma Babe) married T.M. Smith in 1891 and had a daughter, Lillie, who married Joe Layton. Nancy E. Smith married John A. Layton in 1900.
I really would appreciate some help with proving who Grandma Babe's parents were. If Benjamin was her father then who was her mother? Seems Benjamin was married at least 4 times from what I have seen on rootsweb.com. Contact me at loiscarmack@myvcs.net
Thanks, Lois LAYTON Carmack
