Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

Have you tried the Bureau of Land Management Land Records site at:
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/Logon/Logon_Form.asp

These records are for land sold at US land offices from 1820 to 1912 or even later. Use all forms of the name such as Smyser, Smiser, Smizer, Smysor, Smisor, Schmeisser, Schemiser etc.
