Pat, I didn't see your followup message on Leonards. My grandfather was John Leonard, married to Frances Waznak (Powers). His parents, Michael and Agnes Leonard lived in Decatur, and my grandfather started his RR career there too. He eventually was an engineer for New York Central, and retired after 50 yrs.
His father, Michael Leonard was born in Queen's County Ireland in 1846. He had three Leonard cousins also around Decatur and Woolford Co (near Minock)then later Spring Valley, IL, and LaSalle, IL. Leonard cousins were Michael (1846), Thomas,(1842) Lawrence,(1843) and sister Ellen, married to a James Rouka (Rouke). I don't have very much on the Leonard cousins, but their mother was Catherine,(1810) and I found Roukes listed in the Mountrath area of Queen's Co (Laios) IR.
Do you think there is any connection? The Leonards were Catholic.
Best regards,
