Debbie, Thank you for the information on Miles and his family. After you cited the 1850 Ripley County Census I looked it up and found it on the internet. Interestingly, the names of Miles and his wife Ciela (I've seen her listed as Ciela Ann Hayes) are shown on this census as Mikel and Selah. I assume this would be Miles and his wife as I recognize some of the information on two of the children. I've learned during my search that people back then were very creative with first names, nicknames and, as in the case of the name Dizmang, even surnames! I couldn't find the 1870 census you mentioned when I searched on the internet. I have seen a date of death for Miles as 1866 (on the internet, but I can't verify this) so he may not have been living by 1870.
