When I made this posting I was under the impression that this Bass family lived in Doniphan. However, I found that they settled at Columbia, near Pocahontas, Arkansas. They are there at the time of the 1880 census. Their daughter, Euphemia Bass Girtman/Gartman did live at Doniphan, however. Her husband, John, died in 1899 of typhoid fever and she sold the estate and moved on - first to Texas, next she is found in Oceanside, California and then in Myrtle Creek, Oregon by the 1910 census. I have posted her picture - taken with her new husband - at the Randolph County, Arkansas website.
We know that her younger sister, Effie Bass Flood lived in Doniphan.
We do not know where all the siblings settled. Euphemia had many brothers and sisters. Perhaps a brother settled in Doniphan. Do you know the first names of the Bass family you are referring to?
Euphemia and Effie had a brother, Moses Price, who settled in Arkansas and I am in touch with some of his descendants who also came out west to settle in the San Francisco area.
Our Bass family, we have found, came from North Carolina, through Lawrence County,Indiana; Schuyler County, Missouri and south to Arkansas.
Please contact me at:
Would love to hear the stories. We have already learned some of the fascinating history of the Bass family - the descendants of Nathaniel Bass.
I hope that the Basses you knew are related to us...
Thank you,
