Dear Debbie, My Grandfather Fred's father was Joseph Johnson. He came to Ripley County from Oregon County
in 1906, I believe. My grandfather Fred was born in Alton in 1891. My Grandmother Bertha's maiden name was
Ross. She was born in Gatewood, Ripley County, in1899. My father Gene was born in Ripley County in 1931,
on the family farm. The family farm was started by Joseph, who passed it to Fred. Itwas supposed to stay in the
family, but between 1931&1937, the US government took it for thr Mark Twain National Forest. Still much debate
about what happened here, the land was bought and paid for, but for some reason they stil lost it. The government
won't talk to me about it I cannot see my grandfather giving up his farm that easy. I can't seem to get an answer
from anybody. Thanks for the message, keep in touch. Mike.
