I have the marriage record of a Mrs. Elizabeth Witt to John Searcy July 10, 1838 in Ralls Co., MO.
I don't know if this is the marriage record of my ancestors. John Searcy is listed in Jefferson Twp., Monroe Co., MO in 1840.
John Searcy and wife Elizabeth P. are found in the 1850 Buchanan Co., MO census. Their oldest son is William b. Jul 26, 1838. John's brother was married in Marion Co., MO. It is highly likely that this is the couple I am searching for. However, no middle names were given in the marriage record.
Also the title "Mrs." is interesting. Was Elizabeth a widow at age 17? It would seem likely as the first child is born 16 days after the marriage. Is Witt her maiden name or first married name?
Does anyone have any information on this Elizabeth?!
