Dear Friends and members of the Ralls County Historical Society;
Last year ended as one of the best ever for the society as an organization. Membership is the
highest on record and the first of many projects was completed. The old Perry bank was moved into
Perry and work on restoring it will begin as soon as weather allows. Thanks to Ralph Omer, Fred
Omer, Arnold Sharp Construction, City of Perry and others who worked ever hard on this project.
As the year ended, we lost one of our founders and a great historian. Goldena Roland
Howard died December 15. Her History of Ralls County Missouri and other books helped to
preserve and record the history of Ralls County and Mark Twain for years to come.
At 7:30 p.m. January 15 at the Center Missouri Christian Church we begin our newest and
busiest year ever. We will be having the election of new officers and memberships are due, so please
try and attend of you can. We also have a number of projects both major and minor planned for the
year and for years to come we will need to discuss. Listed below are some of the projects we are
Sally Polc, Joy Briscoe, Bill Cearley and I met with the Ralls County Commissioners last month
and presented a plan to place a display of maps with the locations of old and new Cemeteries,
Churches and Schools of Ralls County in the basements of the New London courthouse. Also, we
plan to have a display of old photos of landmarks and pioneers of Ralls County.
The Feagan School that we plan on moving in the future will need a temporary roof to save it till
we can move it. We are waiting on our 5103C to be approved so we can get donations on this and
The Ralls County Commissioners expressed interest in searching funding or grants to restore the
courthouse in New London. We told them that we would work with them in finding funding if it is
available. Any suggestions from you would be helpful.
For funding of our projects we have a new shipment of new Green Ralls County Courthouse mugs
available. These differ in color from first mugs that sold so fast. A series of these mugs is planned
with the next with old churches of Ralls County. The price remains $5.00 each. You can get them
at the Gaylord Winders office at the courthouse in New London and at the meeting next Monday.
We will make them available at other locations after the meeting.
Also a reprint of the book “Ending of a Way of Life” by the both late Okle Rouse and Dee West will
be available for $10.00 at the meeting. We will also try and find other outlets available. These are
also for our funding raising purposes.
Researching to find if there is enough interest in republishing Goldena Howard “Ralls County
Missouri” History. If enough copies can be sold, we can republish it, but the cost would be high.
We need to find if enough people would be willing to pay the added price for a copy. The price may
be in the neighborhood of $80.00, but more research it needed on cost and demand
The Center depot project is waiting on approvals and reports.
Other projects being worked on are: a regular newsletter, society web site, we continue work with
the groups at preserving the Greenlawn and Brush Creek/St. Peters Catholic churches.
I know I have forgotten some projects, sorry, but I won’t to get this out so you can make pans to
attend and have some ideas of our projects being planned. If it is possible connect older members
and nonmember for a ride to the meeting.
The memberships are $10.00 per person and $15.00 per family. Nonmembers are welcomed and
encouraged to attend a meeting and see how we have improved the organization and discuss our
projects. Speakers are being planed for the future meetings with other groups.
Please forward this to anyone who may have an interest and send me e-mails of persons I can add
to this mailing list.
