I am looking for info and relationships for surnames HECKART, HECKARD, STRAYER, BOYD, LITTLE, from MONROE, SHELBY, RALLS County, Missouri, with concentration on 1836 to abt. 1900. Requesting help with SPECIFIC information on area mills, especially the Walkersville Mill in Shelby Co., plus pics and information on old Jonesburg, Clinton, Northfork in Monroe County, especially the milling operation. That area was 12-11 mi NxNE of Paris, and disapperared with the coming of the Hannibal-St.Jo. RR, but was active into the 1860's. John Strayer and brother-in-laws John Adam Heckart, and Michael Heckart were running the Walkersville Mill through the 1840's. In 1851/52 the John's relocated and apparently attempted a milling operation in Jonesburg/Clinton, until relocating to NE Iowa in 1853/54 to set up a very successful mill. In 1852, John Strayer and wife Elizabeth Heckart adopted a young boy, John Adam Little, who became known as John Adam Little Strayer. I am searching the possiblity that a Mary E. Heckart, sister of Eliz. Strayer Heckart married a Little around Jonesburg/Clinton and may have died in child birth leaving John Adam Little to be taken to Iowa by his Aunt Eliz. I think John Adam was named after the Heckart side, but there were many Little's in Monroe County by the 1830's, who would have been associating with the Heckart Clan in NE MO. The Joseph (Jost) Heckart side remained more in the Ralls County area, with migration into south-central Iowa. The Boyd's were closely related to the Heckart's and Strayer's by marriage, but I have almost no info on the Boyd's, and would like some:) I just need more information on the Missouri connection between these surnames, and will share what I have collected. iowaz@hotmail.com
