Though I am a Fanning researcher, but not of this Fanning line, thought I would respond. Margaret Fanning was the widow of Middleton John Fanning that died in Ralls Co. on 11 June 1838. They had at least 7 children. She married John Hilton on 9 Jan 1839. Do not know her maiden name nor where or when she married Middleton. John and Margaret later moved to Schuyler Co., MO, along with some of her Fanning children. Believe Middleton's father was John M. Fanning and that one of his siblings was named Joseph Fanning. The Fanning family appears to have been in Montgomery Co., KY, area prior to moving to Ralls Co. along with many other families including the See, Jackson, Settle, Shuck, Fugua and other families that settled early in Ralls Co. Middleton was listed as one of the first settlers of Ralls Co. His father followed him and still later, Joseph came after losing a court case over land he was residing on in Montgomery Co., KY. Shortly after John M. Fanning died, c1840/41, Joseph Fanning moved to NW MO. John Fanning, Coonrad See and John See were on the 1797 Montgomery Co., KY Taxlist, the year Montgomery Co. was formed out of Clark Co. Haven't looked at Clark Co., but Coonrad and John See were listed on the 1788 Fayette Co., KY Taxlist. John M. Fanning was born c1761/63. If I were to speculate (and that is all it is, speculation at this time but based on some circumstational evidence) on the Fanning ancestors of John M. Fanning it would be that he was possiby the grandson of Bryant Fanning Sr and Elizabeth of Amelia Co., VA. Bryant Sr left a will in 1767 in Amelia Co. naming all of his numerous children. Middleton Fanning (Fannen) served from Aug to Nov 1813, as an enlisted man in Donaldson's Reg. Mounted KY Vols during the War of 1812. Hope this is of some help to someone.
