Hello Jay McAfee,
I really enjoyed reading about the War of 1812 and the various Forts which were established in the MO & IL Territories. I was searching for Howards Fort and difficulty locating it until I came across your information.

One of my ancestors was mustered in and discharged at Fort Howard in 1815. I wanted to find it's exact location and am continuing to search, although I know the approximate location.

My ancestor, Isaac Ford, was living in Madrid and the distance from his place of discharge and Madrid where he lived was listed as 205 miles on horseback. He was paid .21cents per day and it took 13 days.

Do you know much about the Powers Fort in SE MO and Powers Mound?

Thanks for making this information available. The War of 1812 for SE MO has very little information published. I'm always looking for suggestions.
