In September 1889, a three-day Civil War Veterans reunion was held at the Fairgrounds in Unionville, Missouri (Putnam County). Attending this reunion were 739 Union Veterans, and their families and friends. Although this was ostensibly a reunion of the 18th Missouri Infantry, Union veterans from regiments from all over the northern states attended the reunion. There were 346 men who had served in Missouri regiments, 107 from Iowa and 52 from Illinois. There were 118 veterans who served in the 18th MO Regiment and 73 who had served in the 42nd MO Regiment and fewer from many other regiments. Of the attendees’ residences at the time of the reunion, 614 were from MIssouri, 119 from Iowa, 3 from Nebraska and 3 from Kansas. One speaker estimated that 15,000 to 18,000 persons attended the event. On September 25, 1889 the Unionville Republican published the text of all the speeches as well as the names, regiment of service, company of service and the city and state of residence of each veteran at the time of the reunion.
