I would love to hear from anyone researching this line. Elmore Adams b.1824 TN is my great grandfather and James Adams is my great great grandfather. James was born 1803 SC and died 1881 Pulaski County MO.
Census records show James in Warren Co., TN in 1840 and 1850, Dallas Co., MO in 1860 and finally in Roubidoux, Pulaski, MO in 1870 and 1880.

Most importantly, I’m looking for James’ parents and need to verify siblings’ names.
Also would like to find his first wife Elizabeth’s maiden name. She was born about 1806 in NC.

James married his second wife, also named Elizabeth, between 1860 and 1865. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Barnes, b. 1833 TN - d.1881 Pulaski, MO. She was previously married to George Campbell, Dec 8, 1852 in Laclede Co., MO.

Elizabeth Barnes mother’s name is Sarah, father unknown. Sarah b.1798 SC and Elizabeth are listed on 1850 census record in Laclede Co., MO with Hezekiah b.1832 TN, Joseph b.1834 TN, and Stukely (Stokely?) b.1836 TN.

I also found a marriage record from Laclede, MO dated May 24, 1850 for Leah Jane Barnes and John R. Hays. They are listed above Sarah on the 1850 census. (John R. Hays was married about four times.) On 1860 census for Laclede, MO, mother Sarah, listed there as b.1800 NC, is living with John R. Hays b.1827 TN and Jane Hays b.1832 TN and their children, (one is named Stokely Hays.)

After them on the census is another Barnes family, Samuel W Barnes b1817 KY who was listed on 1850 Laclede, MO census with wife Martha J b.1817 VA. They have several children. Is Samuel related somehow to Sarah’s family?

Also I need to verify the following information: Hezekiah Barnes and wife Mary Ann b.1834 MO both died 1866 and their three children Nancy, Sarah and John are then listed with Thomas N Adams and wife Delila A. on 1870 census record in Gasconade, Laclede, MO. I believe this Thomas N Adams is son of my gg grandfather James Adams.

Her maiden name is Delila Ann Bench b.1850 MO, daughter of Lawrence Bench c.1779 NC and second wife Narcissus Foley. Delilia later married William Henry Wood b.1840 - d.1905 Pulaski Co., MO. William was previously married to Sonora Isabella Adams c.1846 MO. Does anyone know who Sonora’s parents are? Spelling might be wrong. Rumor has it she is a cousin to Thomas N Adams.

Many families living in Pulaski County Missouri have ties to the Adams family. Let’s exchange info.

I posted the above information in response to the following post found on the Adams Family Forum:

Irene Adams b. 12/20/1828
WIlliam J. b. 4/18/1830
Thomas N. b. 8/16/1833
James R. b. 3/23/1836
Martha M. b. 2/28/1838
Mary A. b. 10/28/1840

Liddy b. 1/27/1871 MO
Samuel H. b. 4/27/1874 MO
John Hamilton Adams b. 4/10/1878 MO

James Adams was a busy man. Elizabeth was married to George Campbell before James and she had the following children from that marriage:
Emily Campbell b. 9/26/1853
Lura Campbell b. 9/19/1855
Rebecca Campbell 4/5/1857
James H. Campbell 6/7/1858
Mary C. Campbell b. 5/1/1860

I think there might be a TN connection to James Adams but not for sure. I can't find James on the 1860 census, it doesn't look like he was in Pulaski County but it does look like some of his kids were there. I have found him on 1870 and 1880
